Bluefish In The Surf 03/02/2016

Found fish in the surf tonight and it was fun. Whiting were all around my feet in huge numbers and Mullet up to 18 inches were stacked in and around my legs. It was amazing to see so many fish in one place. There must have been 100,000 of them.

Kept casting to the smaller mullet and bait fish. Had one Speckled Trout on and I caught two bluefish. They are great fighters but after smoking one all day the best they can be likened to is Sardines. I think I could eat a few but not many.

Port Mansfield Texas Deep Sea Fishing 02/27/2016

I had the opportunity to go out after Red Snapper the other day and the boat did fairly well as you can tell by the pics. The bite was very light and hard to feel the fish and lots of bait stealers in the 12 inch range.

The limit here is 4 fish over 15 and I gave away fish early thinking we would be into some hogs. FInally got my 4 and one bruiser but not as good as some days I have gone out. You never can tell what you will get but at least its a day on the water.

Went with Osprey Cruises and those deck hands worked very hard. We moved the boat often enough to make me believe the captain was doing his best to put us on fish.

Another good day on the Jetty fishing for Sheepshead. I did not want to go to the end but was able to catch some on live shrimp all along the Jetty. Larger fish were coming in off the end of the Jetty and some Redfish too.

I waded the surf and saw a lot of Mullet and minnows too. Some of the Mullet schools were in the millions I think. Something was really tearing them up as they came across in front of me but too far to cast.

I took the day off from fishing due to having to get my RV warranty work done. Heartland Campers are to be commended for their warranty department. Ron Scarberry is the best rep I have ever worked with. It took a year but finally getting it all done.

Delays were due to me being on the road so much and living in my camper full time. Found a mobile service and they did a superb job. Kudos to Sierra Rv in Port Isabel. THESE PPL ARE GOOD and efficient and fair.

Walked to the beach to fish a bit this evening but forgot my license so Paula and I came home and did some laundry etc. I did see Whiting and Sheepshead being caught down there so its heating up for sure.

I think a kayak or boat of some kind is going to have to come into the household before next year so I can access the flats in the bay.

Paula wants a paddle board and I also am thinking a Hobie Cat Sailboat and bikes. Have a great Triton aluminum trailer I can convert to hold it all. Living on the road full time makes for having a lot of gear a lot harder. have to plan more and find a way.
