Port Mansfield Texas Deep Sea Fishing 02/27/2016

I had the opportunity to go out after Red Snapper the other day and the boat did fairly well as you can tell by the pics. The bite was very light and hard to feel the fish and lots of bait stealers in the 12 inch range.

The limit here is 4 fish over 15 and I gave away fish early thinking we would be into some hogs. FInally got my 4 and one bruiser but not as good as some days I have gone out. You never can tell what you will get but at least its a day on the water.

Went with Osprey Cruises and those deck hands worked very hard. We moved the boat often enough to make me believe the captain was doing his best to put us on fish.

Another good day on the Jetty fishing for Sheepshead. I did not want to go to the end but was able to catch some on live shrimp all along the Jetty. Larger fish were coming in off the end of the Jetty and some Redfish too.

I waded the surf and saw a lot of Mullet and minnows too. Some of the Mullet schools were in the millions I think. Something was really tearing them up as they came across in front of me but too far to cast.

Unbelievable day with them today. They got us on the Red Snapper and my bait never hit the bottom before I had a fish on. Everyone on board had fish today and the fillets were awesome. One fish I caught got ambushed by a Mako Shark and it was a thrill to see him even though I lost my fish.

Kudos to the captain and deckhand Frankie. They were both personable and did a great job. I think the regular price is $75 and that's a good value considering prices of fuel and boat expenses I think.

See if you can book a trip with them when you are in the area.

Had a nice afternoon fishing in the pass. Nothing much biting but Whiting. These gave me a great fight on light tackle and I was able to get enough for several meals. They fillet easily and have very white flakey meat for any dish you want to prepare. I did see a large Redfish come off the Jetty too so they are starting to move in with the increase in water temperatures.

Its been a cold winter so the fish are definitely not in yet.

Sheepshead continue to be caught in good numbers with live shrimp. Finally got my fill of them and going to go out and see about catching some Red Snapper on a boat trip. Will keep you apprised of that as it happens.
