Hunting with a Crossbow
/I have had to make some modifications to the way I hunt since being injured. This year I purchased a Barnett Quad 400 crossbow and hopefully can find an elk close enough to the road to get a shot.
I have lots of friends who will assist me both before, during and if I get one, otherwise my seasons would be non existent. It takes a lot of hard work to be able to manage this and keep the pain levels under control but I am going to try.
A crossbow gives a person, whether aged or injured, the opportunity to still hunt in bow seasons. Pulling a bow requires a lot of strength and as we age, sometimes we just cannot do it anymore. Salvation comes from being able to use a crossbow with a special permit. They don't shoot any farther than a bow so there is not and additional advantage. In Colorado, you cannot use a scope of any kind in the bow season.
A lot of states let a person mount a scope on a crossbow and I guess that's not primitive hunting. Of course neither is the newer high end compound bows, range finders, gps tracking arrowheads, laser arrowheads, lighted arrow knocks and on and on. Next we will see laser guided arrows. And then some day you will be able to sit at home and the arrow will hunt for you hah.
I have shot this crossbow a few times and can get it cocked with assistance. I had out my Mathews bow the other day and sure miss the days when I could use that. its one phenomenal bow to shoot but I just cannot pull it anymore. Too many injuries over the years prevent that. Was up looking tonight and saw a huge cow elk right by the road. That would be a perfect shot for me. hah.
SO get out there and scout and find your animals. Let the good times roll.
