West Fork Fire, South Fork Colorado

We are back in the RV park in South Fork, Colorado. There are about 20 people still in town and we seem to be safe since we are north of HWY 149, and there are no trees on this side of the Hwy. We are under a watchful condition tonight and will get up and check during the night for any new happenings so we are not surprised.

Coming back into town was an eerie experience and reminds me of some day after the end of the world movie with no one around. I watched the empty storefronts roll by and dark windows in every house was spooky beyond description. The quiet night seems loud with the lack of noise from the highway. Normally trucks and cars go by carrying locals and travelers to distant destinations The RV is still my home and for now anyway, I will remain here and take care of my garden spot and start to fish again in the nearby Rio Grande, River. It should be good fishing as no one has been on the water for about a week and the fish will probably come readily to the fly.

We missed the main part of the salmon fly hatch due to the fire. We have yet to see what the affects of the fire has on the deer and elk and other animals and the possibility of mud slides and ash runoff into streams, lakes and the river is a real threat.
