March 24, 2015 South Padre Island
/Sheepshead fishing really heating up and boaters report thousands visible just off the jetty shore. Live shrimp is the bait of choice. I had a 40 pound Black Drum on for about 30 minutes yesterday and finally broke off on the sharp barnacles lining the rocks.
Whiting also very good but too small to keep at this time. Millions of small minnow type fish now along the Jetty and locals say the Spanish Mackerel are soon to follow with those hatches in place. Hoping to see that before I have to leave for Lake Texoma next month for the striper extravaganza Spring fishing.
