Hunting season has rolled around once again and Ol' Dutch is out in the field doing his best to provide meat for the table.

It’s bad enough to have to rise at the ungodly hour of 4 a.m. but to see Trixie lollygagging around like Sleeping Beauty is about more than this old hunter can take.

Chasing these elusive game animals this past week got me to thinking, which is an activity Trixie says is best left to people with experience. Determined and undeterred, though, I went ahead and struck out into unknown territory and began to peruse the differences between a buck and a doe.

Hunting widows reach record numbers

There is a high mortality rate among men nationwide this time of year. It begins late in the summer and gains in momentum as fall approaches.

 

This disease causes more widows faster than any other known ailment and I am surprised that medical science has not tried to solve the problem or that government has not spent untold millions studying it.

It’s the time of year when many women become widows to the hunting disease. There are warning signs along the way such as the outdoor magazines piling up next to their partner's chair. The disease carrier can be seen perusing the dogged-ear pages over and over again like some new convert in a goofball cult studying doctrinal teachings.

Let the hunting season begin!

This week marks the beginning of the Big Game seasons in Colorado and there is already a buzz in the air over the influx of hunters to the area. These hunters -- whether local or out-of-state -- bring in much needed revenue to the San Luis Valley. Although the first bow season opens this Friday, last week saw hunters arriving in preparation for their hunts.
