The Abundance of the Heart

From living many years on this earth, Ol' Dutch has noticed that if you give them the opportunity, people will pretty much tell you what they are going to do or have done.

In order to appreciate this phenomenon, you have to develop what is known as “listening skills.”

This is harder to do than one might think as it involves closing one’s mouth, which as Trixie is quick to point out, seldom occurs around Ol' Dutch. What she fails to realize is that I am trying to improve HER listening skills.

Staying Busy Doing Nothing

All my life I had looked forward to the day I could retire and get to do exactly what I wanted to do. When that day suddenly came at an early age, I found out what other men had told me was true: it can be boring.

I now find myself on the road full-time in an RV visiting different parts of the country fishing and hunting where I go plus visiting friends and family as I choose. The good thing is about the time I start to smell like old laundry to my family, it’s time to move on to a new location.

The RV parks are in and of themselves remarkable small villages of interesting folks. My typical arrival at one of these parks goes something like this.

Birthday boy finds reality

The past week marked a milestone in my life as I was fortunate to have passed another birthday. I say fortunate because like most people, there have been events in my life which could have cut my years here on earth short thereby depriving so many people of my loving and kind presence. Well, something like that anyway.

Birthdays always bring up the question of gifts and although no gift would be considered too large, I don’t really need anything at this point in life.

When I first met Trixie, she came with a great personality and some ideas that any man in his right mind could buy into. One of these is the idea of gifts.
