Ecstatic Friday, February 6

Celebrating Ecstatic Friday with Paulo Coelho: "You have to take risks, he said. We will only understand the miracle of life fully when we allow the unexpected to happen. Every day, God gives us the sun--and also one moment in which we have the ability to change everything that makes us unhappy... If people really pay attention to their everyday lives, they will discover that magic moment. It may arrive in the instant when we are doing something mundane, like putting our front-door key in the lock; it may lie hidden in the quiet that follows the lunch hour or in the thousand and one things that all seem the same to us. But that moment exists--a moment when all the power of the stars becomes a part of us and enables us to perform miracles.” Come on, unexpected! I'm ready for a miracle today.

Happy Ecstatic Fri in a month of miracles! I've been thinking about Mark Twain's quote: “The miracle, or the power, that elevates the few is to be found in their industry, application, and perseverance under the prompting of a brave, determined spirit.” What I (and others) miss about miracles is that we must put our lives into "drive" first; we initiate the miracle. Across most ancient religions -- be it Christianity, Judaism, Islam, etc -- it is taught that we take one step towards God, and God takes 10-20-100 or 1 million steps towards us. Notice, though, we must initiate the step. That's the key to having a miracle. Take the first step and expect a miracle today.
